iPhone | Android | drupal mobile | mobile themeing

This is NOT about making apps, but about adapting themes, templates, views and other odds and ends to make your site look nice – or at least be useful – on the small screen and potentially limited facilities.
This is not rocket science, but there are some pitfalls and some areas which require more work – and some where it's close to impossible to adapt look and function to the small screen – but in general it's easy to customize news, articles, discussions and much more to fit the limited screens on mobile devices.

We will cover some of the existing mobile modules as well as other more customized methods of adapting to hand held devices.

During the session we will use an Android simulator to demonstrate the effect on screen, but you can also browse the test site live on your own iPhone, Android phone or even a plain vanilla browser using an agent-switcher and a small window size.

The session is not extremely technical, but will require some PHP, CSS and theming knowledge. It can also inspire themers who want to have a good starting point for theming for mobile devices.

For more on mobile strategies and other uses of mobile Drupal, check out Philipp Schaffner's session 'Drupal Mobiliser — Mobile Web Overview'.

And ... Blackberry? Opera Mini? :-)

Looking forward to this

Looking forward to this session. Can I also ask if you can give your views (if you have any) during your session on using drupal with jQTouch, iwebkit or even jquerymobile, and also if you have any experience with using json_server/services with or without authentication, just throwing in services as an idea to pull off content from your site to be used in offline mode with your mobile.
There's a thread kind of started about using jqtouch with drupal here http://drupal.org/node/646324 so if anyone else has any thoughts about anything I've mentioned feel free to chip-in on that thread or point to other threads of interest from there. Thanks guys.
