Mapping in Drupal with OpenLayers

Alan Palazzolo 8 June 2010
Type:  Session in official program

OpenLayers is a powerful Javascript library to do web mapping with. Combined with Drupal, OpenLayers provides a solid base for creating maps on your Drupal site and integrating Drupal structures. This session will demo the module and talk about the status and direction of the module.

Web mapping is all the rage these days, and for good reason. Mapping allows users to explore data in a more meaningful and enjoyable way. Combining the power of geo-coded content and mapping, a site's content can come to life in ways that traditional sites cannot offer.

Do more than publish video on the web... run a TV channel with Drupal

Kevin Reynen 8 June 2010
Type:  Not planned session

The Open Media Project is a collection of modules developed by the Open Media Foundation with funding from the Knight Foundation. It allows viewers to run an actual TV channel. That's right! Drupal users determine what airs on TV in several US cities. Think of it as sharing the remote of a TiVo with hundreds of your neighbors via Fivestar and Voting API. The modules developed for the Open Media Project include everything from encoding, Creative Commons licensing, metadata, and managing equipment checkouts.

This session has 2 goals: 1) Demonstrate how the Open Media modules extend Drupal to allow users to do everything from reserving cameras and studios, submitting broadcast quality video, and rating those videos to determine what airs on TV in several US cities. 2) Describe the some of the steps taken to develop the culture of collaboration that continues to drive the project beyond the initial $380,000 Knight NewsChallenge grant.

Creating Online Surveys with Drupal

Gabriel Dragomir 7 June 2010
Type:  Not planned session

Online surveying with Drupal is commonly associated with modules like Poll and Webform. Complex surveys for social and marketing research require a lot more features than what is provided from these (excellent!) modules, like the ability to build scales and specialized question types, question filtering, question routes, controlled survey delivery or exporting data to statistical analysis software packages. This session will introduce a new Drupal distribution profile currently in development and aimed to be a powerfull surveying solution. You will find out how it can help you to:
- create and manage complex surveys that feature question routing/filtering
- deploy public surveys and targeted surveys with email/token based access
- use predefined question types and build your own question types easily
- export data for further analysis to a third party statistical software package

Non-English and Multi-Language Search with Apache Solr

Markus Kalkbrenner 26 May 2010
Type:  Not planned session

We will explain the fundamental language specific problems of full text searching using Apache Solr, present some real life multilingual examples from Switzerland and demonstrate the corresponding features of Apache Solr Multilingual.

Apache Solr is a powerful search engine well integrated with Drupal. Solr provides faceted or "guided navigation" which allows site visitors to quickly find what they are looking for by narrowing or refining their query by simply clicking on the links provided as "facets".

Unfortunately, the standard Apache Solr Search Integration module is not very suitable for non-English websites. A lot of manual work is necessary to provide a working setup e.g. for German or French websites.
