We all know that learning from mistakes is the best way to learn how not to do things. In this session I will pick some of the worst nightmares I have stumbled upon during my 5 years with Drupal theming (eventualy we will look into D7 possible nightmares, such as hook_alter). I am pretty sure that some of you have still sleepless nights while thinking about a ticking bomb in your theme. If not, you might not even be aware of such problems and/or wrong approaches.

For any kind of Drupal website, it happens very often that existing modules get you 90% of the way but you still need some customizations to get things looking and working exactly the way you want. Not a brand new module, just some site-specific adaptations that get you to 100% of what you want.

How to build Drupal Websites for "normal" clients

"normal" in my case means clients:

from over 15 countries in Europe
with limited budget
with a limited time frame
with many good ideas
with different backgrounds
with very different experiences concerning websites and ICT knowledge
from small and big companies

What I have seen for now from Drupal 7 is, that everything will be better, faster, easier and more logical and user-friendly.
Unfortunately, for the time being, I cannot use Drupal 7 in productive environments because it is not stable (surely after this conference).
For that reason I will describe my adventures with Drupal 6.

Fluid grids, flexible images, and media queries are the three technical ingredients for responsive web design, but it also requires a different way of thinking. Rather than quarantining our content into disparate, device-specific experiences, we can use media queries to progressively enhance our work within different viewing contexts.
