You may have noticed this recent change on the labor market: companies do not recruit Drupalers anymore, they pay Drupal training for their own employees. Why? Simply because there is no more Drupaler available to recruit. And with the near release of Drupal 7, you do not have to be a visionary to predict that Drupal is entering a new era of fierce expansion.
How has this growth been possible? Thanks to Dries Buytaert, original creator and project lead of Drupal. Also thanks to the Drupal community, a group made of thousands of developers improving and securing Drupal day after day. And finally thanks to community leaders who promote Drupal in their local areas.
I recently became president of the Association Drupal France et francophonie. Simple questions arose as I was asked to quickly organize a few Drupal events:
- how to set up a fair sponsorship system leaving no one behind?
- how to involve a maximum of Drupal companies?
- who is allowed to communicate?
- what has to be done with the money collected?
Many other questions followed. To answer them, I had face to face meetings with Drupal experts, called a Drupal community leader and paid a visit to two university teachers. As a result to these talks, it appears that accurate answers cannot be given unless a global debate takes place inside the whole Drupal community about the goals, roles, composition, organization, power and status of local and national Drupal communities.
This BoF session is organized to set up the foundations of this debate, whose aim is to achieve a code of conduct for board members to be published for the next DrupalCon in Chicago
