Blocks. Panels. Services. Context. Why are these all separate systems?

That's the question many leading Drupal developers began asking at DrupalCon San Francisco, and some even earlier. What if we could merge all of these systems, and make Drupal context-sensitive throughout? Just how far could we go?

There is active work happening on this topic, with the goal of rebuilding Drupal 8 along new, modern lines that could open the floodgates for a new generation of high-performance, interactive sites or faster, more flexible light-weight sites. If all goes well, it could even allow for backports for Drupal 7 to provide a smooth upgrade path.

Of course, all of this dreaming is still in the early planning stages.

This session will present the vision of the "Butler project", where the effort stands, what still has to be figured out, and how you (yes you!) can help move it along. It's a highly ambitious effort, but the potential win is just as big.

What went wrong? Still no

What went wrong?

Still no release of the video in the internet archive. I would really like to get my hands on this session material.
