Organising a DrupalCon is just like any other project.
I will be going through the organisation of a DrupalCon illustrating and covering organisational internal and external processes, decision-making processes, managing a team of volunteers and responsibilities.

In preparation, you need to define the what, where, when, how, who and how much it costs.

  • How do you set up deadlines?
  • What are the specifications?
  • How is the communication organised?
  • How much room do you need to leave for additional development during the realisation?
  • How do you determine the price?
  • Who is the conference aimed at?
  • Who has got the power to make decisions?
  • How are decisions made?
  • Who has the documented and the real responsibilities for what?
  • What is the goal?

In addition, other issues will come up during the realisation:

  • How to work with a team of volunteers?
  • What tools do you use?
  • How do you deal with things that you couldn't possibly think of at the beginning?
  • How do you adapt to minor and bigger changes?

After a week of DrupalCon, the work doesn't stop there. Ideally, we learn how to make it better next time or reproduce what went perfectly this time.

I highly recommend attending

6. July 2010 - 12:45

I highly recommend attending this session. Isabel co-organized DrupalCon Paris and as Project Manager of DrupalCon CPH she's busting her ass to make this conference a huge success as well.
