A love connection: Drupal & Ubuntu

Rubén Romero 19 June 2010

This session focuses on how the Ubuntu Community makes use of Drupal everywhere: From ubuntu.com through most Local Community sites worldwide and to the Ubuntu Marketing site SpreadUbuntu, we use Drupal to spread the message of Open Source Freedom. And we want to share this know-how with everyone!

Drupal Rights and Responsibilities

Ken Rickard 19 June 2010
Type:  Session in official program

Drupal is an open-source collaborative software development platform. To build and maintain a sustainable Drupal project, individuals and organizations need to understand the social contract that keeps our community thriving.

Working with Drupal brings the power of its community to work for you. But it also involves you in that community in ways that you might not expect. We'll cover some of the hidden costs of bringing Drupal into your organization, plus the resources you will need in order to keep your project sustainable.

This will feature lively panel discussion covering best practices for Drupal contributions maintainers and the rights and responsibilities of Drupal users.

Topics that we will cover:

* What are the rights and responsibilities of Open-Source developers?

Communicating Drupal visually

Heather James 16 June 2010
Type:  Session in official program

Calling all Drupal artists! This is a hands-on workshop. We'll review guidelines for designing visuals for learning. Then we'll create visual representations of fundamental concepts of Drupal.

Session goal: The goal of this session is to create informative visuals to assist in Drupal adoption.

Introduction: There is a presentation renaissance happening, and people are leaving the old tired bullet points behind. But there is a lack of useful visuals for Drupal. If you write documentation for your modules; if you present proposals to potential clients; if you deliver training, you find you need compelling visuals for your ideas.

The Command Line is your friend

Addison Berry 10 June 2010
Type:  Session in official program

The *nix command line interface (CLI) is a powerful tool but can be a bit daunting if you've never used one before. Here is an introduction to explain what is going on and get comfortable with the basics you need to be a command line rockstar.

This is targeted at folks who've never opened a terminal before, but will cover a number of tips and tricks along the way. We'll even show you how Windows users can get the same CLI that Linux and Mac users use, so you can use it too!

Main points we'll cover:
- Huh? What is this thing? How do I get one?
- Moving around (both locally and accessing a remote server)
- Creating and editing files
- Searching

Idea Sex: speed networking your ideas across the Drupal community

Kieran Lal 24 May 2010
Type:  Not planned session

This session aims to accelerate Drupal's collective intelligence by having a panel of Drupal uber networkers connect session attendees and their ideas to other members of the community. Session attendees will be given 60 seconds to pitch their idea. Our group of expert Drupal networkers will then Google, search, discuss, and brainstorm with who and where the presented idea should be transmitted.

The effectiveness of the Drupal project is often attributed to the power of the community. Economists refer to this capacity for solving problem as collective intelligence. Most of this collective intelligence is developed over the Internet through twitter, IRC, Forums, mailing lists, issue queues. This session aims to accelerate that process by having a panel of Drupal uber networkers connect people and their ideas to other members of the community.
